We don't wait for candidates to find our jobs. We search your community and find them.

Year-round, community-driven recruiting that builds a deep workforce before your district ever needs it — not after.

Our recruiting approach
Four recruiting channels working simultaneously, all year long.
Most staffing companies recruit when a position needs filling. We recruit continuously — so qualified candidates are already screened, trained, and ready before your district ever has a vacancy.

Community-based grassroots recruiting

We believe the most effective substitute workforce comes from your own community. Our team participates in local job fairs, state employment agency events, Career Center initiatives, community employment programs, and local sponsorship opportunities — building relationships with candidates who are already invested in your schools.

Your substitutes live in your community because we recruit from your community.

Higher education partnerships

We maintain active recruiting relationships with regional colleges and universities in every market we serve. These partnerships give us access to education majors seeking classroom experience, recent graduates pursuing teaching careers, and individuals with bachelor's degrees interested in flexible work in their local schools.

A continuous pipeline of candidates already connected to education.

Alternative certification pipeline (iTeach)

Through our partnership with iTeach, individuals with a bachelor's degree can pursue full teacher certification while working as substitutes in your district. This creates a dual benefit: your classrooms get motivated, qualified substitutes today, and your district builds its long-term teacher pipeline for tomorrow.

Multiple StaffEZ substitutes have transitioned to full-time teaching positions.

Technology-supported digital recruiting

We advertise substitute opportunities through integrated job board listings connected to Indeed, Google Jobs, and Glassdoor, along with targeted digital campaigns and social media outreach across Facebook, LinkedIn, and professional networks. Our online application process is streamlined and mobile-friendly.

Broad reach combined with local specificity.
The bottom line

Recruiting isn't an event that happens once when a job opens. It's a continuous discipline that ensures your district always has a deep bench of qualified, trained, community-connected substitutes ready to serve. We recruit new candidates every month — even when every position is filled — because the best time to build your workforce is before you need it.

Who we recruit
A balanced workforce built for reliability.
Our continuous recruiting model targets four candidate profiles that together create a resilient substitute workforce.

Retired educators

Experienced professionals who know the classroom. Through our program, retirees can return to work without sacrificing any of their retirement pensions or benefits.

Aspiring teachers

Education majors and career changers gaining classroom experience while pursuing certification through traditional programs or our iTeach partnership.

Community members

Parents, caregivers, and local residents seeking flexible employment that aligns with school schedules. These candidates are already invested in the success of local schools.

Experienced professionals

Our candidates average over 10 years of experience in their field. We screen for professionalism, communication skills, and genuine commitment to student success.

Our screening process
Rigorous by design. No shortcuts.
Every candidate passes through a multi-step verification process before they're ever approved to enter your buildings.
Step 1

Application and qualification review

Candidates complete a detailed electronic application covering educational background, employment history, references, and classroom experience. Recruiting staff review every application individually.

Step 2

Background screening and drug testing

All candidates must pass required criminal background screenings, drug testing, and compliance verification conducted in accordance with state regulations and district requirements. No candidate begins work until all screening is complete and approved.

Step 3

Interview and candidate evaluation

We use both automated and personal evaluation — assessing professionalism, communication skills, classroom readiness, and genuine commitment to working with students. Candidates who don't meet our standards are not approved, regardless of demand.

Step 4

Employment documentation and handbook review

Candidates complete all employment eligibility verification, payroll documentation, and review and acknowledge the StaffEZ Substitute Handbook — covering professional expectations, policies, and procedures for working in your schools.

Step 5

10+ hours of training before day one

Every approved candidate completes our full onboarding and training program — 8 hours of structured online modules, 2 hours of in-person orientation, and 1 hour of dedicated safety training — before they ever accept an assignment in your district.

Step 6

District approval and activation

Only after completing all steps is the candidate submitted for final district approval and activated in the placement system. Your district maintains complete control over who works in your buildings.

"We had so many retirements and vacancies occur at once that we don't know what we would do without StaffEZ helping to fill the shortages in our school."
— District Administrator, Tennessee
