Summary: The Academic Tutor provides services as an employee of StaffEZ supporting the district by providing instruction, encouraging the students and managing the learning environment in a positive manner.
Purpose: To provide a structured tutoring program in Mathematics and English/Language Arts for grades 4-7 in all Benton County Elementary schools and both Middle Schools to allow for 1:3 and 1:4 ratio, in a tightly managed, clearly defined program to address learning gaps and accelerate learning specifically noted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Essential Job Functions:
This is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
- Certificated/Licensed to teach appropriate grade bands in literacy and math
- Provide approximately 6 hours of service, 4 days a week in 30-minute small group sessions. Days based on need per each school.
- Will provide extended instruction in either Literacy or Math for the entire semester.
- Tutor will be provided with curriculum and training by the district to be utilized in all training sessions.
- Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom
- Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate
- Providing students positive and constructive feedback
- Report to the office upon arrival, check out at end of the day
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times specified
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records of the day
- Use personal judgment and discretion in supervising the class
- Assist students with any help they may need with their work
- Follow lesson plans, make notations
- Be aware of the different social personalities
- Assist administrators in implementing the policies and procedures of the school to maintain a safe learning environment for the students
- Create and maintain respect and fairness to all students and staff
- Ability to address various learning techniques of students
- Maintain student confidentiality
- Be aware of any school policy and procedures regarding lock downs, fire drills, etc
- Represent the District and StaffEZ in a professional manner by performing all job functions at a satisfactory or above level.
- Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in a positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
- Performs other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested, consistent with reasonable expectations for the contracted position.
Qualifications:
- Certificated/Licensed to teach appropriate grade bands in Literacy and math at one four-year regionally accredited college and university and/or hold a valid teaching certificate.
- Bachelor and master’s degree in Math or Literacy/ELA.
- Completion of the required TN All Corp Tutoring Training. Submit certificate of completion and receive 5 hours pay.
- Complete 2-day paid live training with Benton County Schools English Language Arts and Math Supervisor
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must meet criminal history background requirements (requires FBI fingerprint )
- Must be 21 years of age
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Occasional climbing of steps
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels
Work Year, Hours & Compensation: Hours vary depending on assignment. Pay based on educational qualifications.
