Education and Experience:
- Currently hold an active RN license in Tennessee

Essential Functions:
- Review student health histories and develop individual health plans for students with special health needs.
- Write critical care plans for students who may experience a need for emergency care while at school.
- Conduct screening programs including, but not limited to, the following areas: vision, hearing, scoliosis, blood pressure and body mass index.
- Make referrals as needed after review of screening results.
- Counsel students, families and school personnel on risks to health.
- Coordinate health promotion activities that raise awareness and encourage healthy lifestyles.
- Administer medication and/or provide treatments as needed to sustain school attendance for students.
- When applicable, participate in the development of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students with health-related problems.
- Provide special nursing services to include: blood glucose monitoring, suctioning, nebulizer treatments, blood pressure monitoring and other procedures necessary to ensure the health needs of students.
- Provide training to staff members to include: CPR, first aid, management of choking, use of automated external defibrillator and exposure control to bloodborne pathogens.
- Promote and assist in the control of communicable disease.
- Provide emergency care in case of sudden illness and administer first aid in case of injury to students or staff.
- Provide training and supervision in proper medication administration. May teach volunteer staff in the emergency administration of epinephrine, glucagon and diastat as prescribed by a physician.
- Monitor immunization records and entrance physicals.
- Act as a resource person to school staff regarding health education and health education materials.
- Coordinate with the Coordinated School Health Coordinator the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training in the district.
- Assist the Coordinated School Health Coordinator in tracking the overall utilization and maintenance of AED’s in the District.
Other Responsibilities:
- Performs other work duties or responsibilities as assigned by the principal or director of schools.
Physical Abilities:
This position requires lifting of objects not to exceed 25 pounds without assistance and the wearing of a safety support belt and frequent lifting and/or carrying objects that weigh 10 pounds or more. Other physical abilities that may be required are:
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling
- Climbing and/or balancing
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
- Reaching, handling, and/or feeling
- Talking and/or hearing
- Seeing.
