Summary:
The Food Service Kitchen Worker provides services as an employee of StaffEZ, serving the district as part of a team to perform routine work in the preparation, accountability, and service of food. Applicant must have the ability to work harmoniously with students and other adults and provide friendly service; ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment; ability to work and communicate in a noisy environment; ability to learn to operate basic food service equipment and machinery; ability to follow simple instructions and skill in performance of routine non-technical duties involving cleanup and serving of food. Basic math skills necessary for preparation of recipes, i.e. measurement, ratio and proportion, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction and counting ability necessary for inventory. Communication skills necessary for reading and understanding labels and functional and cordial discourse with children and adults.
Essential Job Functions:
Note: This not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
- Wash, peel and prepare fruits and vegetables for salads and cooking; clean and dress poultry and fish; grind meat for hamburger; prepare coffee, tea and other beverages, make salads, sandwiches, soups and simple desserts.
- Set up trays, steam tables and food carts for serving line; serve food on cafeteria line; may set up for special luncheons, and dinners.
- Scrape trays, wash dishes, pots and pans; empty refuse; clean kitchen and dining area floors and tables; clean stoves, ovens, steam tables, food carts, windows, doors, refrigerators and other equipment; help maintain clean storage area and stored food in proper condition.
- Inventory responsibilities include checking in and put away stock items.
- Use basic math skills necessary for preparation and adaptation of recipes.
- Perform other incidental tasks or services consistent with the job goal of this position.
- Provide outstanding customer service and use positive interpersonal communication skills.
- Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Brevard Public Schools' Organizational Values.
- Ensure compliance with Brevard County School Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations.
- Learn and operate food service equipment and machine, in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Dress appropriately for the position at-all-times, (i.e., hair netting gloves, slip resistant shoes, etc.).
- Use appropriate sanitation and safety procedures, processes and guidelines for a food service establishment.
- Represent the District and StaffEZ in a professional manner by performing all job functions at a satisfactory or above level.
- Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in a positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
- Performs other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested, consistent with reasonable expectations for the contracted position.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED
- Must be at least eighteen years of age.
- Previous experience in food service preferred.
- Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
- General knowledge of food preparation and presentation.
- Completion of the required Global Compliance Network online training modules
- Demonstrated record of good attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Must meet criminal history background requirements (requires FBI Fingerprint and Jessica Lundsford Act)
Physical Requirements:
- Exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects. Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds frequently as needed. Exerting up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to heating and cooling equipment on a regular basis.

Work Year, Hours & Compensation:
188 days per year. Monday – Friday, 4 hours/day or as assigned.
